I think there is a pattern here. Stu's son in law shot a big one last year . Mark's son does the same. Either us old farts don't know what we are doing or else we are awesome guides. I'll stick with the awesome guide story.

Awesome and congrats to the young man! Old guys are just generous to a fault and let the young-ins have all the fun.

Thanks all. Very special moments on Saturday afternoon. It started raining about 5 pm and at 5:15 Brandon was getting ready to call it. He turned around and zipped up his backpack, and this buck was standing 10 yds behind him. Not sure why he took a pic of it at this point, but he did. LOLLLL At 5:32 he called me in an absolute panic. I have never heard him babble like he was. I had to stop him and tell him to slow down. Then he says, I shot the fucking buck!!!!!!!! OH! upload a pic on the internet

it took the buck 15 minutes to walk 20 yds. He said the deer was just standing back there looking around doing nothing. He walked under Brandons tree and had to walk around a pile of branches we had piled up from trimming, and thats where Brandon was able to grab his bow as he walked around the opposite side of the pile from Brandon. 8 yd shot. He ran out across the cut wheat field and died about 100 yds away. We found almost zero blood. Thank god he ran out in an open field. The angle of the shot was very steep and didnt pass thorugh, so all the blood was just pooling in his chest cavity.

My friend who is a butcher at Von Hansons, caped it on Sunday. We didnt have a scale, but he felt the deer was around 180 lbs dressed. Taxidermist said its 4 or 5 years old max. Not an old deer. Tremendous genetics. Score should be around 160. Taxidermist is going to score it.

So freaking awesome. Not that it matters but I see closer to 170 gross! I keep looking at the pictures and imagining what he had to be feeling as this thing went down. Pretty ballsy to snap a pic of it!

He couldnt see him fall. The tree stand is back off the field edge and he cant see down to the south very far.
I drove over there and he went out to look for blood at impact, and I walked to a rise in the field and there he was.
Spread is 18.5 inches on it.

I'll stick with the awesome guide story. I have been focused on getting him his first bowkill for a few years now. The farm he shot this one on, I have given him the entire place to hunt, and I have been mainly hunting 3 other farms. I would have loved to have shot this deer, but it means much more to me that he got the chances at him. So I will take awesome guide and generous father.

If that bucks goes into a jungle with rain and no blood, you might have a very different outcome.
That is why I shoot fixed blade. I think it increases the chances of a drain hole in the bottom.
I also think heart shot deer don't always bleed as well as you would expect. I think the heart quits pumping so less blood is lost.
So this is his first bow kill? Kid has balls to take pics and have the composure to pull that off with a buck in front of him that long.
