My brother, a buddy and his dad are all hunting MO. Movement seems a bit slow for the calender date, great weather, and prime moon but they are seeing and passing some good ones. It seems they locked down a week early this year. They might be free and looking for more does on rifle opener on Saturday.

Talked to another party in OTC that normally does very good. 5 guys, some hunted through mid week. no deer shot. Nobody saw any bucks over 2.5 during the rifle hunt. However 3 of them bow hunted prior to Saturday and one of the guys on Thursday had 21 baldies in their beans, 2 bucks that were in 150 range, one solid 8 and some smaller bucks. All feeding at the same time and no jostling for alpha between any bucks. Nothing. Once Saturday came around the deer sightings plummeted(which isnt all the surprising since guns were out) but they saw very little sign of any rut at all.

I had some chasing Thursday evening before season, and the buck I passed on Saturday was grunting and scent checked a doe...and that was the extent of rut activity I saw between bow and firearm season. Scrapes this morning were not re-opened after last night's light snow.

BLB--I saw that in OTC too, went from 15-20 deer per sit, to 4 in all day sit. No bucks. Too many vehicles, ATV's shots, yelling "he is down over here"...the mature figure it out. The MN firearms season shuts the rut down in a hurry.

Could having the gun season during the RUT be impacting either the timing of the rut or maybe just the level of rut activity. If the rut has been occurring during rifle season it has been occurring at night. I have not witnessed intense rut activity for 5-6 years.
I'm just wondering if it could be pushing it to later in the season or maybe it is just more subdued because of the human pressure?

Back when I used to frequent a WI fishing forum, there was a guy on there who owned and hunted in far NW MN. He always said that he'd never see much rut activity until towards Thanksgiving.

Buck was 30 minutes behind the does today. I have seen more deer after the first day of rifle season than usual, but many acres of corn have come out this week.

I think it does affect the day to day rut and breeding habits in MN, it almost all happens at night in my area, due to the intense gun pressure. I am convinced a few does do not meet up with bucks in certain pockets of cover, (not a high percentage) due to the constant pressure, but I could be wrong. Most bucks that move during the day in MN, will die, unless they live in a sanctuary or they are on a lightly hunted piece of ground.

I saw a lot of different bucks moving today. I saw does running so hard their tongues were hanging out. I saw some bucks just walking around with no direction in mind. Little bucks 130" and under are chasing some. Big boys are just sitting back waiting.

I've shot more bucks on November 25th than any other day of the yr. Almost all of them have been following a doe.
Right now I'm seeing a lot of what Mo is seeing. A few little bucks running everywhere, some checking on does (but I'm seeing a ton of does that are still by themselves), and no big bucks yet.

I still have cams I haven't checked in MO but I'm pretty sure the mature buck movement on my farms is going to be better in late Oct to about Nov 4th or 5th than this week. I had a lot of daytime movement in that time period on the cams I've pulled. Seems they locked down with does 5-6 days early by what my brother, a buddy and his dad are seeing this week...or not seeing.
The perfect storm came together this week: cold temps, red moon, and the calender dates I think are the best for mature bucks and the action is just mediocre. They saw a couple good ones yesterday so maybe bucks are coming on off does or it's another trickle rut. Most reports I'm hearing from down there is fairly tough hunting considering the conditions and calender. They might be running wild for gun opener in MO.

My buddy has been in Iowa since Wednesday and all he has seen for rutting is yearling bucks. He has seen a few very nice deer at a distance, but not chasing

Rut Report from Central Mn, a bunch of lonely ladies with no bucks chasing. Was in the stand all day Friday and Saturday. Pretty constant doe sightings, two spikes, and a fork was all I saw for bucks. Does seemed pretty comfortable still.
I can't tell if this one is giving me a hard time that I'm sitting on the wrong side of the property when this was taken or if she knows we aren't shooting Does at our place.
