Nothing wrong with Haralred for a deer apple. A few years ago Lee sent me a picture of a buck eating Haralreds. I would guess it has dropped 50% of it’s apples.

What's the main difference Haralred/Haralson?

What's the main difference Haralred/Haralson? Haralred is a red sport of haralson. Something happened with a limb many years ago in the genetic line up and a slightly different apple developed. I hope I got this story straight...

I have never seen a more consistent tree than my neighbors Haralson. Loaded every year.

Well keep in mind my neighbor is a little out there, he likes to puff the magic dragon a lot. It is possible he has the wrong identification?
But, the apples do resemble Haralson.

Is your neighbor a hobby orchardist? If so, it's entirely possible he's thinning the fruit on his tree to protect against biennial cropping.

Anyone interested just PM me, the owner of that tree would be happy to let me do that. I would need some coaching as I am pretty amateur on apples. I would like to prune it for him.
