Seems like 50s have become the "norm" for opening firearm weekend the last number of years. The last two bucks I shot (2 and 4 years ago I think) I was scrambling to get the hides off, meat cooled down, and the capes to the taxidermist.

I really hope we can save up some of this warm weather for January or February.

Doesn't look like Buddy heater weather all the way thru at least the middle of next week.

It is 5 days away, but it looks like rain and a SE wind for opening morning. I'll be torn between walking to the stand in daylight in case I see a buck on the walk into the back side of my property or to do the opposite and go in really early before the neighbors walk in. What option do you guys typically prefer?

With only a short time in stand I'm not wasting any of that time sitting in the dark.

What option do you guys typically prefer? I'm of the mind to be out there before everybody else, and let them push the deer to me. It's worked a bunch for me. Sucks sitting there in the dark for a long while, but you get the best time to be out there, which is first light.

I can go either way. I have had deer bust me in the stand before daylight.
I don’t like SE winds but have two options. One stand is right on the edge of our yard and the deer might be used to our scent.
Second option is set up just inside thick woods for a SE wind. Either entrance might work. I have even waited for higher winds in mid morning to slip in there.

It rained from around Maple Grove to Owatonna this a.m., rained all day down there, and rained all the way back to right around St. Joe. By the time we got home, we were raising dust on our roads. Sure would have been nice to get that all day soaker...

We caught a slow soaking rain today, which is much needed. We really needed it two months ago, but better late than never.
My pathetic overseeded winter rye might actually grow a couple more inches if the weather stays warmer than average.

Week 1 of my 2 week vacation. Highs in mid 70s. Hunting sucks.
