US Park Service is debating on how to get the moose population under control on the island. Estimated 1500 moose live on the island. There are only 2 wolves left, and they are non breeding.
Concerns are the moose will destroy the forest on the island because the population could double in as few as 4 years, and by bringing in a couple different packs of wolves, they can get the moose population in check.
Anyone else raised an eyebrow and wonder WTF is wrong with this story??
There are no wolves, and the moose population is skyrocketing. On the mainland of MN, the moose population is falling year over year and there are wolves. No wolves- moose population increases. Many wolves - moose populatoin decreases
The DNR has been researching the falling population for years and years in MN, and the answer is right here. Wolves. Ummmm. all I can say is WTF.

Leave it to them to try to figure out how to demolish a unique natural resource. Send in the f*ckin bowhunters at $200/tag. Problem solved, $150,000 in revenue raised. If mother nature deems wolves shouldn't be there, then wolves shouldn't be there.

I thought the hunt thing too, but would be challenging shuttling hunters out there I would think.
I guess someone would figure it out though.

If they sell me a moose tag I'll figure out a way to get there.
The DNR will come up with lots of reasons why the moose issue on that island doesn't apply to the mainland. But if a small pack of wolves can keep the entire island's moose population in check, how many moose do you think Minnesota 3000+ wolves can eat?

I have been saying for years that Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan DNR are all conning hunters into believing that wolves don't put a big dent in deer populations. Total bs. They have a lot of people believing that yote, bears and bobcats kill more deer. What really happens is that the wolves do the killing and then the bear, yotes or bobcats scavenge on the remains. A student comes in looks at the kill site sees bear or bobcat tracks and blames them for the kill.
