Its the rut, at any given time you could have had him come by or someone elses 16 pointer from ten miles away come by. Definitely happens that way here in NH every year I've had 10 new bucks show up since October 20th.

The only thing you can do is improve the land so they stay on your property part of the time. Provide food, sanctuary.
Or buy more acres next to it.

Bummer but at least you got to see him. Side note: it looks like you hang you cams high and that rascal still looked up at it?

Side note: it looks like you hang you cams high and that rascal still looked up at it? Camera filter clunk. When it's calm they can hear the IR filter moving to/from the lens.
