I would be very interested to see those pics. Trego is a ways up there. Do you have any idea how it stands up to the snow loads? I don't know how Sunburst holds up to snow loads. I'll inquire & get back to you. I drilled a 3/4 acre patch of dead sod at my place, with Sunburst last spring. I clipped it a couple times... it establish "poorly" but I didn't use Atrazine or Simazine. I expect it to do much better in 2017. I'll keep you posted on this as well.

3rd growing season Cave-In-Rock. This is the tallest it's ever been. My buddy is 6ft tall. It's been a strange growing season. Lots of moisture early but super dry & hot since May 15th.

Amazing Coop,,,, tall switchgrass is such a deer magnet, I am amazed in Iowa for instance, how many deer bed and mingle in switchgrass. In many ways I think they prefer it over timber.

I have a mix of prairie grass and the deer love it. I have beds all over my prairie grass. I think deer feel safe in a sea of prairie grass as there is no edge for predators, they can here and smell anything that approaches them.
Its a great addition to a property.

The two smaller plots were drilled into sod which hasn't been nearly as effective. This will be the first year these spots are predominantly Switch.

Nice work Coop! I wish I had some open ground to do that. That should help protect the fawns.

After this time of the year when corn makes bedding cover, does the prairie grass get as much use?

After this time of the year when corn makes bedding cover, does the prairie grass get as much use? It does as the Prairie grass has some of the better high ground where deer can catch a breeze and get away from the bugs. Some of these spots also border my neighbors corn and soybean fields. In my case I have 50 acres of prairie grass and the does and young bucks love to bed in it. I think the older bucks bed in the marsh.

Switch grass is great at times for holding deer and giving them cover. But when it comes time to hunt it, it sucks. You never get to see the vitals of the deer very well. You can see the antlers moving through at times, but that is about it in a good stand of switch.

You can see the antlers moving through at times, but that is about it in a good stand of switch. It sucks if you want to shoot deer in it... I planted mine in a big funnel. I hunt'em entering and exiting. During gun season 2015, I walked the West edge of my switch to get to a stand. Counted 17 sets of ears including 4 racks. Every deer stood up and followed the noise I made. They couldn't see me over the grass & not 1 spooked. I climbed into a stand & watched them all lay back down.

In Iowa I have 16 acres of switchgrass mixed with natural cedars. It is the best bedding cover I have ever seen. My buddy was hunting near it one night in early December and 20+ deer came out one end of it, and I saw 7 come out the other, and I know that we did not see every deer.

Here is a pic from a distance. Does not look like much, until you walk in it, it is crazy thick and tall.
