I would be very interested to see those pics. Trego is a ways up there. Do you have any idea how it stands up to the snow loads? Trego WI. 2nd year Sunburst Switch. Growing in rocks & sand. My buddy is 5'10''

Interesting observation from Trego WI. My buddies plant a 50/50 mix of Switch & Big Blue. The Switch totally dominated in the better soils and the Big Blue filled the void in the sandier/rockier areas.

First year, broadcasted in spring both sunburst and cave in rock. How tall should my plants be? Anybody have young switch pictures? I know they say not to give up until after year two, but man.....idk if I have any growing! Haha. There are some grass looking plants 2-3” tall, but I would say they look more like weeds

Fought thistles all summer in the shit. Second year it came in much better.

If you don't want to spray for weeds then I would recommend mowing. WSG need lots of sun and heat and shading out WSG will delay their growth.

How did you plant it, drill or broadcast? I think its key to match the plant variety with the soil. Switchgrass prefers wet loam soils but I understand there are some varieties like Sunburst that do well on drier soils.

Well i had some switch make it and grow. Small stuff is a foot tall and the tall stuff is near waist high. Maybe that’s all I will get for growth in the sand? Or does it get a little more rambunctious in year two? Should I broadcast more seed on top this spring?
Does it only grow back from seed or does it still grow from the original plant?

It usually takes 3 years before switch looks decent. When you walk through your switch, look at your feet. If you can see them you don't have to much thatch build up that will impair growth. NWSG needs allot of sun so unless you have large areas without grass I would not seed until your certain it needs more seed. if you have allot of weeds I would mow so the grasses are not shaded. if you got some grass that was 3'+ that's pretty good, I would be paitient. You can fertilize next year if you want to expedite growth.
