Instead of cluttering up the weather thread, thought we’d move it over here for something to do while the Arctic enema rolls on through. I had wanted to chime in anyway.
The core issue for me isn’t the gun, it’s the precedent that we can begin dictating what each other needs. It’s a slippery slope and terrifying when u consider that same mob power can get turned on you. Here are some examples:
Environmentalist whackos take control and start dictating how many homes we can own and how big our homes can be. They require everyone to install heat pumps, and ban fuel oil furnaces. They limit the amount of non-work flights you can take per year to regulate your carbon footprint.
The health nazis take over and start banning meat, trans fats, dairy, salt, liquor, and tobacco, because nobody “needs” that stuff.
Speech whackos take over and ban talk radio, Fox News, heavily scrub social media to ensure no snowflake is ever offended and no alternative thought is ever uttered or considered.
The Eugenics folks come out from the shadows and start limiting family size, who deserves an abortion, who must have one, and how much health care we’re allowed to consume in our golden years before it’s “not worth it” to continue keeping us alive.
This is also the food plot/habitat manipulation issue. We all operate within the system as is, but have also given ourselves huge advantages over our neighbors that only show up two weekends per year. That has bubbled up numerous times. It’s all the same core issue.

I fully agree with your second paragraph. That is what I believe the NRA was thinking when they took the stands they did (referring to Foggy's comment in weather thread). It is all about setting or not setting a precedent on gun confiscation.

I'm 100% for "black guns" for a couple of reasons:
Constitution - 2nd amendment is for militia purposes. While the people will never be as armed and powerful as the government the intent was to have enough power to keep voting our officials into office and avoid oppression or dictatorship. In that respect limits to what we have only help big government.
Morals - Ownership of a firearm (any firearm) does not change my moral code or alter my ability to reason. I am in no way mentally impaired due to owning a gun.
Freedom - Living with freedom isn't easy and it isn't "safe". Giving a man free will is sometimes dangerous and casualties can happen. Trying to baby proof everything takes away freedom and as sd pointed out; it's a slippery slope once that first step is taken.

I would agree and I will fight for the right to own any firearm in this country, whether I feel the need to own one myself or not. My comments on AR's are simply my observations of what "works" or "doesn't work" for ME! An AR chambered in .223 is probably great for many things, just not for Dale, that by no means insinuates that Chris or Kaleb does not have a very good reason to have one, even beyond the plain fact that 2A says you can. The .300 Blackout round seems to be redundant to me, since a good old .30-30 has about the same amount of power and range, so for me, it is pointless. That said, I would likely look into owning an AR platform in a caliber more suited to "my" needs, such as an AR10 in .308. I would really like an AR15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel or an AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor. What I would not do is hang needless crap off of it just to make it "tacti-cool".

You guys got me wondering if I'm a tacti-tool. I had set up two ARs so far, one for long range, and one for close range. Here's what I put on each one:
Long range: This was my prairie dog hunting gun in 5.56. Six position sling 4x12 scope bi-pod
Short range: Also 5.56 with fixed iron sights. Six Position sling Forward grip

Tacti-tool! Freakin' hilarious! My 82nd Airborne buddy will love that! LOL! And no, those items do not qualify you IMO. I heard no mention of a spiked door-breacher muzzlebreak, multi position flashlight, sandwich holding buttstock, and 4 sighting optics on the same weapon, you are safe...........for now.....

I still want to set up one more for medium range open sights. This would be the same as my short range gun, but instead of iron sights, it'd have an Israeli army fiber optic green dot sight. The reason I haven't done it yet is because the sight is the same price as the rest of the gun. The reason I like it is because there is no battery. It clearly hasn't risen to the top of the "need" list.

You guys calling AR's Black guns? Or do more guns fit the category? I think lots of guns fit into the Black Gun category. Being a media driven term I'm sure anything that isn't a single shot .22 fits. I imagine it's AR's, Glocks, MP-5/7's, AK's, SKS's, etc. Anything that has a "military" or "gangstar" look to it. I'm not big on the terminology as most all guns function the same. I prefer these categories; single shot, pump, semi auto... that about covers everything in my mind.

Here you go, this place is 10 miles from my farm. The parent company is a tier one provider to Polaris and other snowmobile/ATV manufactures. They got started supplying DPMS parts and then built their own brand. You won't see much about them but I hear they are a good gun. They will also add a suppressor if you want to shoot something without the bang. www.apfarmory.com/6-5-rifles/

I grew up plinking and still love to get out my Reminginton Speedmaster. I purchased my AR 5.56 last year and find it fun to shoot and like my speedmaster lets you rip through rounds which is always fun.
For hunting there are allot of semi auto guns that will work equally as well as an AR. When it comes to aesthetics I like classic rifles with wood stocks.

Hell, if you're quick with swappin cylinders, you can make a single action army a fast shooter.
