I grew up plinking and still love to get out my Reminginton Speedmaster. I purchased my AR 5.56 last year and find it fun to shoot and like my speedmaster lets you rip through rounds which is always fun. For hunting there are allot of semi auto guns that will work equally as well as an AR. When it comes to aesthetics I like classic rifles with wood stocks. This ^^^ is one reason why AR's don't really enthuse me all that much, I have shot and owned semi-autos since I began shooting and my Remmy 742 in .30-06 suits me just fine. I even have a couple old 10 round magazines for it somewhere. I suppose I could even make it tacti-cool if I wanted?

You guys calling AR's Black guns? Or do more guns fit the category? I think lots of guns fit into the Black Gun category. Being a media driven term I'm sure anything that isn't a single shot .22 fits. I imagine it's AR's, Glocks, MP-5/7's, AK's, SKS's, etc. Anything that has a "military" or "gangstar" look to it. I'm not big on the terminology as most all guns function the same. I prefer these categories; single shot, pump, semi auto... that about covers everything in my mind. You left out the original assault rifles of the 1800's: The lever-action rifles. Still very versatile and useful for home defense and hunting. I own several Marlins and Savage in 22's, pistol calibers, 30-30 and in 308 Winchester. Some of the best guns ever made IMO. Really fun to shoot. Currently I am lusting for a Henry Lever action in .410. Original Marlin slogan: Load on Sunday....shoot all week.

It's one of my favorites... but I do kind of lump it in with pumps with looking at mech of shooting. I have my grandpa's old 30-30 lever. It's a gun I will NEVER get rid of.
