Below was in my email regarding the Governors race
====================================================================================================================
> Happy New Year. > > You have all been so instrumental in getting my head wrapped around the idea of creating an avenue to introduce Jeff to hunters and anglers outside of a traditional political path. Thanks so much for that. > > I'd like your thoughts on what I think should be the next step. In January, I'd like to host an event around Mille Lacs. We build this event as a platform for Steve to talk fisheries, Brooks to talk deer management and maybe one resort owner to state the challenges currently faced, and offer some solutions. We bill this as a listening session for Jeff to hear these concerns first hand. > > I see this as 30 minute meet-n-greet, followed by Jeff introduction, 10 minutes from each speaker, 30 minutes of audience Q/A interaction, 10 minute close by Jeff and milling around after. Other than the milling around, the whole thing should be done in 90 minutes. > > We'll promote this as a way to begin a new forward looking legitimate approach to managing our states natural resources that transcends politics and focuses on people and agency service to them. We'll invite the media, chamber members, business owners and activists. > > I'd like to replicate this approach in February in Leech Lake and March in Southern MN. > > Thoughts?

Imho- You should be in the background of the campaign. Educate jeff. Intoduce and step aside. And offer yourself up as the go to guy for outdoor issue education. He's not going to learn any of this stuff himself. He needs people to tell him what to think and boil it down to 30 seconds.

Nice quote from DNR Commissioner Landwehr in the paper. About sums it up here in the land of MN nice...
"You don't get what you deserve, you get what you fight for,"

^^^ Yup, and your DNR(Landwehr) knows that they only have to "fight" a handful of MN guys. The reason many of the changes we have seen in WI have came to fruition is because we had MANY more guys stand up and fight A LOT harder for what they wanted to see than the small groups who are halfheartedly speaking up in MN. Obviously you have a few like Brooks who are willing to go the extra mile to pressure St. Paul, but not nearly enough to make the powers that be instigate any real changes.

I will be working Jeff Johnson's booth at the Deer and Turkey Classic next Saturday sharing his changes to deer management in MN. Decisions on the shape and size of the herd would be made by those affected locally (county by county) - not politically in St Paul. Exciting Schmidt.

Here is the draft of what our deer management position will be at the deer/turkey show.
So, you’re a deer hunter! When it comes to issues surrounding hunting and fishing here’s what you can expect when Jeff Johnson is the Governor? A DNR Commissioner committed to serving Minnesotans ensuring that our states natural resources, timber, minerals, farmland and game and fish are developed and managed for the use and enjoyment of all Minnesota residents. Political agendas originating in St. Paul will end and small town values will be respected. Every appointed commissioner will have clear measurable goals and be paid based on their performance.
A DNR dedicated to ensuring that every management decision is evidence based, that these decisions are locally informed and approved and are clearly aligned with achievable goals and objectives. Legitimate deer management decisions will be evaluated and verified by collecting additional data and implementing appropriate metrics to effectively monitor progress toward these goals.
Improved statistical methods and data resources that produce more accurate deer population estimates and deer herd impacts, verified by field research and used for future decision-making estimates.
Building Wisconsin’s success, County Deer Advisory Teams will gather local input on deer populations and set goals in a public and transparent way. County specific deer management plans will identify clear goals and include incremental indicators to measure progress toward those goals.
Local interests will be respected and empowered to steer policy decisions within science based limits to maximize the financial and recreational opportunities while protecting our vital resources.

Oooh! You may draw the DNR into the election and have them fighting to prevent his election like the Justice Dept did to Trump.
