Seems young but every kid matures at different times. I know my 8 year old daughter is not ready at this point, she's tiny to start with. I'll start her with a beebe gun this summer I think. I think 10 year olds may be better suited if proper parenting is in place.

Seems unnecessary. Yes there are kids this age with parents that could properly manage a hunt but there are far more that I would think 12 is soon enough.

I didn’t read the entire article.
My daughter wanted to deer hunt after spending a year or two sitting in a blind or stand with me and also chasing spring turkeys.
I required her to hunt squirrels first. She killed a few squirrels with a .22 one September and still wanted to deer hunt.
Put a cross bow in her hands and with a lot of luck, she killed a doe on her second hunt.
She was 8.
She is now 11 and has killed 5 deer and 4 turkeys. Two turkeys were with a .410 and everything else has been a cross bow.
If I had waited until 10 or 11 to start her, I’m not sure if she would have done it. Sports and other extracurricular activities become more dominant in her life. But the hunting seed was planted early and she always makes some time for it every year.
I’m glad my state doesn’t tell me when my kid is ready. I think it should be my decision.

I don't need the state to tell me when kids I mentor are ready to hunt. I vote we eliminate the age restrictions.
