I didn't take a pic, but we had haluski (fried cabbage and noodles/dumplings) last night with our fish fry. Never had it before, but will have it again. Really tasty. I think a person needs to be around a bunch of Poles or Slavs in order to get something close to the original. Some good haluski comes out of Sobieski. There is another similar food that I can’t remember the name of. Even Germans eat it during Octoberfest in August. The haluski we had last night came from Herbie's Bar in Flensburg...but Herbie's used to be in Sobieski. The original Herbie's burned down a couple years ago. The owners then bought the Flensburg muni and renamed it Herbie's. Unfortunately, one of the owners died last summer. His brother was co-owner and along with his widow, they've kept the place open. I hope they can survive the virus. In addition to the haluski and fish fry (fish was awesome BTW, best fish fry we've had in MN) they make the best pizza in the area.

I made Kishka sausage last night.
Pork, buckwheat and cows blood. Never had it before. Very different. Very good. I went in wondering why I bought it. Glad I did.

My wife says her family made a sausage called kishki. Probably the same thing. There was also a duck blood soup called charneena. Darned if I know how to spell it.

I don’t know about blood sausage. I do know about bean soup. We mixed half a bag of 15 bean mixture along with some home grown (in law’s farm) pinto beans to soak overnight. Right next the the soaking beans is a crock pot full of ham bones that’s been simmering for 12 hours so far. Later this afternoon we will combine the two and simmer until the beans are done add carrots, potatoes and dumplings. Aside from the white flour dumplings this is a very healthy meal. Good to have a farm girl wife.

Recommended diet for those who are working in an office shared with others. Perhaps good birth control also. I don’t need to worry about that any more.

Squirrel ragu. My daughter made homemade pasta for the first time to go along with it.
