What do you guys do along your property lines?
At my grandmas, there is a fence running along the west line. I would like to make a walking access trail along there to get to some of my back stands. Are you guys clearing along the fence and hinging trees on the other side of the path, or making the path 15 yards from the fence and hinging between the path and the fence? Currently there aren't any fence line hunters, but that could change at any time. Thoughts?

I had a truck trail right on the line of my two wooded borders when I bought my place. So far I haven’t had any problems. I think my lone neighbor is more of a social guy than die hard hunter, so no fence line problems.
If I could pick a way from here, I’d improve bedding towards the center of the property first, and then hinge down a barrier between the property line and a second line where you’d like your deer to walk. The risk is they bed on the back side of your hinge line and u get busted.
I’m taking the year off from hunting the back corner of my property for that reason.

8 foot fence works great for my goals. I heard a rumor that you are now a high-fence property owner. Any truth to that? wow.

every time I make a trail along my fence line the deer use it, lol. Stupid things. I try to make "sneak trails" for me to access stands and the damn deer follow them as well. The one place I don't want to see a deer track ....and sure as shit that is where they show up. I swear they do this to us just to frustrate us!

I guess the way I see it - a trail is going to create 2 edges. If I offset that trail further into my property and hinge the space between the trail and the property line.....I just created another edge for the deer to relate to/use. I don't think either is going to prevent line hunters or poaching. So I would just as soon maximize as much of my property as possible......I would put the trail as near to the property line as practical....and then beat the crap out of that trail as much as possible with traffic so the deer get some motivation to avoid it.....hopefully pushing the deer deeper into your property. The only way I do the offset thing is if I know I can grow a thick and tall enough screen between my property line and the trail to keep prying eyes out....and that is going to more than likely take some time. All just an opinion. My property doesn't facilitate perimeter trails as much as I would like.

I like thick cover by the fence line.

Interesting thing I've noticed quite a bit (and was re-confirmed yesterday) is parallel trails. We have fresh snow on the ground and I was moving cameras. The main trail going through my woods (which is very old, the width of a skidsteer, and never used by humans anymore) only had a few tracks in it. But, there was a heavily used deer trail 10yds away from it that ran next to it for a long ways. The trail was in heavy cover and much more difficult walking than the cleared path. This is in a low pressure area that I never hunt and seldom enter and they still choose to make their own way.
Maybe this tidbit can help.?.

I heard a rumor that you are now a high-fence property owner. Any truth to that? wow. 100% accurate. Did you fence your property or did you buy a new one? What type of critters are you going to hunt on your place?

Bought a new one and kept the old one. Whitetails are inside. A few does and and a crop of breeders that are shot by interested parties to make it cashflow.

Do you bring in bucks for people to shoot or is natural reproduction enough? Are you going to add pigs or any other critters?
