I got to wondering what kind of micros I may or may not be getting from the lime I've been using as well as how much Mg and Ca are in it. I decided to send a sample to the lab to have it analyzed. I hope to get it back middle of next week to share. I just hope I got the right form and tests selected. I did call in and ask ahead of time, so I think I'm close.

Me too. When I saw what it might cost to fix some of the non-leachable micros, I thought I had better look. Plus i'm just curious.

I've seen that page before. Very neat page. All the lime I get I buy in bags. I'm blessed with light soils that don't take much to bring up the pH. What's interesting, is most of the lime I find in stores around SD and MN, all comes from Wisconsin and Iowa. I've been buying Waukasha coarse (50-59) from Tractor Supply. I know it's a dolomitic lime from what I read on their website. I'm just looking to see exact %'s of Ca and Mg so I can understand what I'm putting on, as well as if there are any amount of micros. Some of the stuff outta Iowa has some amount of micros in it, but not near a corrective amount, at least for my rates. The Hefty guys said beet lime is really good for providing some free micros.
My soils start out at 81-86% calcium already, so I know I've got some room to bring Mg up and tighten my sandy loam a little. If I overshoot it on Mg, I'll try to get it back with gypsum over the following years.

I got a note this afternoon that they're working my sample. At least I think this is what this says. It does look like I got the form filled out correctly. I had to ask to add boron to the test.

If I remember correctly, to convert PPM to lbs, you divide your PPM by 10,000.
If that's right, I should get 8lbs manganese per 1000 lbs lime?

I read through that, but couldn't quite make it out, so I called the lab. The dude that did my test walked me through it. I didn't quite catch what he told me, but I got enough out of it to know I'm not getting any game changing amount of free micros. Otherwise, the Ca/Mg ratio was neat to see. I was operating on the assumption it was 22Ca/11Mg. Turns out it's a little different. Glad I got it, now I know.
