Those new poppers float differently than the old cork ones.
I had a great time on Tuesday. I was on a lake with small sunfish and must have caught 40 and three bass. Great time to work on my casting.
Now I need to find a lake with bigger sunfish.

Beautiful morning on the lake but no fish. Maybe time to go home and spread some lime.

I don't fish anymore, let alone fly fish. But, back when I was a drunk I used to fish a lot. I even used to fly fish for trout in Colorado, snobby style. Tied my own flies. Got stupid about it, kind of like what I'm doing now with my deer hunting problem.
Anyway, I caught a lot of sunfish on a fly.
Whatever little popper you like, with just about whatever bead head nymph tied on a dropper below it. When they are biting, it doesn't much matter whats on the end of the line. When they aren't biting, they aren't worth fishing for.
Or, you can run a wooly worm. I liked purple. When they go deep you can rig a sink tip line. But, that just seems counter productive to the whole fly rod thing, the sink tip. I used to drag big streamers along the bottom for bass, using a sink tip. Then I realized I was trying to make my fly rod into a bait caster, do the same thing I did with a carolina rig. I put down the fly rod and went back to a the sweet carolina rig with a brass sinker, glass clicker beads and 6" worm. Caught more fish, had more fun.
Ignore me. I'm in the mood to rant tonight.

Not really fly fishing, but I caught some. Not really fly fishing? What did you do, whack it with the oar? I see a fly rod, and if you are referring to that ugly, pink, "weighted nymph" in the fishes mouth, still counts as fly fishing. Everyone should have an assortment of bead head caddis in their fly box.

The last time out, I let my daughter use the ultralight and I used the fly rod.
