So I have been asked to join a crow hunt contest. Its $30 per team and 3 hunters per team. You get from 10am till 3 pm and then meet at the bar. Most crows wins the pot. I've blasted crows before because they were annoying me or just there but I've never gone out to hunt them. I do have that Ihunt Ruger electronic call you guys talked me into buying. I've also hear about some people putting bait down but not sure if that is effective as moving around.
I have a lot of public land in the area but its mostly wooded. Unless I ask around and try and find farm fields
Because I've never done anything like this what are some tips? Call a lot move around? What kind of frequency do you call and how often do you move? What other tips do you guys have? I know crows are damn smart. Help this rookie out.

Owl/crow fighting is a good call to draw them in, they will usually always come to help their buddies.

Do I need to get in open areas (fields and food plots) or will calling work in the timber?

3 man team, I have one guy sitting on the call the other 2 moving. Find some road kill or bait and have fun. While bow hunting I tried my I-hunt with a crow call. within 3 minutes I had some circling the plot. Never landed but it did bring them in.

I LOOOOOVE crow hunting!!!!
Put out an owl decoy and use your speaker with a crow fight. Pump the volume and have shells ready for reloading. They get plume stupid with this set-up. I've had a flock just keep circling until I had shot almost all of them. Throw out a few bags of corn a week in advance if you want to insure that there are some in the area. You will know when it's time to move to a different location.

I'd start looking for road kill now and make a bunch of carcass piles a few miles a part so have different birds feeding at each spot. Crows also really like old kitchen scraps. They're a lot easier to call into an area if they are used to going there already, so that will help. Put the bait in a spot you can sneak up to so you can ground pound them when you sneak up to the pile. I've always used a cheap crow call and it seems to work well.
I have no idea if baiting crows is legal or not, so you might want to look into that too. It would be embarrassing if you were the first person ever ticketed for baiting crows.

When I shot crows I would fold them up in a normal position and throw them in a snowbank to freeze solid. The next time out they would be frozen and they made great decoys. Well it would work great until it warmed up or something ate your frozen crow stash.

So what does an owl decoy do? They come in to kick its ass or what?

Crows hate owls.
I have had crows dive at me after owl hooting while turkey hunting.
I’ve never hunted them but would like to give it a try some day.

So what does an owl decoy do? They come in to kick its ass or what? Crows and owls are natural enemies. They like a good fight.

I've called crows from my boat along the river. Move 1/2 mile or more to set up again. Same would work with a frozen river or small openings in forest. Tree cover makes it easy to move without being seen. A couple of decoys makes them less wary so they fly or land closer in short order. I've never used bait. Around northern MN the woods are filled with crows. If you dont call any in ten minutes.....move on. The goal is as many sets as you can make.....and stay as long as the shooting lasts.

How the hell does a pussy crow have any chance against an owl? Seems to me the owl would always win? I must be wrong.
