A tremendously shitty article was written in the ODN about the legislative agenda for the outdoors as the legislature gets set to throw the doors open. Lots of nothing and vague mentions, but in it was a quote from Bill Ingerbretson (sp?) that said he'd "inform the committee" about crossbows.
Also on tap, farmed cervids, a stone wall to no-net-gain on the land gobble, and a fresh $400 million dollar 10-year price tag for outdoor capital. No that is not for new stuff or habitat improvement. It's $400 million for all the state visitor centers, roads, sheds, walking bridges, and shitter tanks, to keep them from falling apart.
What's not mentioned? Hunter access or putting meaningful funding into Walk in areas.

All I know about x-bows is that the DNR here used them as a claim to "expand hunter opportunity"......what that really meant was "so hunters can kill even more deer". X-bows here are now legal from October 1 thru the first Sunday in January (same as true archery equipment).....no special season, no age or handicap limitations, no specific areas. Now that we have all this "opportunity".....the deer numbers are declining faster than the DNR will put on the brakes......just like they wanted. Sometimes when a door opens, it's not a good opportunity, sometimes you need to be smart enough and just stay put.

Word is the Crossbow Rez failed at MDHA 155 to 83 or apps. Great news, glad to hear it. Read your comments in the ODN, good job. i wrote Ingenbretsen (spelling?) and let him know crossbows were a bad idea and if he recommended them it would be a huge mistake. Maybe it will be dead for another year.

Word is the Crossbow Rez failed at MDHA 155 to 83 or apps. I'm not losing hope yet. I don't have a lot of fear that MDHA will suddenly start honoring or being the least bit concerned with the wishes of their members. There are two bigger constituents that MDHA has to answer to before their members. They are their paychecks and the DNR. And I'd be disappointed in capitalism if big archery didn't have a little dirty money in there to influence a position. Just to be clear, I also think crossbows will be bad for the herd given the culture, but there are enough ways to take as many deer as a person wants anyway. I'm just trying to save $365 on non-res tags and extend my season.

I've had far less trouble getting into bow range then I have had drawing the bow without spooking the deer. Using a crossbow would be a huge advantage that would further destroy our deer herd. Saw an ad in the NRA magazine for a crossbow that claimed 3" groups at 100 yards. That would make it more effective then a smooth bore shotgun with rifled slug. Between scopes on muzzleloaders and the increasing advances in archery equipment the "primitive seasons" don't seem very primitive any more.

AKA - kill more deer.

I feel MDHA will follow through on the votes on the crossbow issue.

I feel MDHA will follow through on the votes on the crossbow issue. I don't trust Engwalls words. Not even 5%. He gets no benefit of the doubt from me. From experience. Snake.

mnbowhunters.org/2018/04/19/archery-trade-association-votes-to-change-crossbow-position/Archery Trade Association Votes to Change Crossbow Position ATA (the Archery Trade Association) recently voted to change its position statement on crossbows. They will no longer support inclusion of crossbows in bowhunting seasons. They realize the impact of superior weaponry in a lengthy, liberal primitive season. Details will be released in about a month when the verbiage is crafted and approved Thank your local MNBowhunters board member for their efforts with a 3 year subscription. We may keep crossbows out of the MN archery season forever. Maybe. ‹ Minnesota’s Governor
