I had a good duck dog once upon a time. She had to be put down back in 2012. I got my new dog almost 2 years ago. Due to family and work commitments, I have done a piss poor job training him. He has a lot of natural talent, is very birdy but I need to work with him on handling and holding birds. He still doesn't realize he can carry a goose on land. This is a pic of his first hunt which was last month. He retrieved the ducks. I swam one goose back to me. The other geese hit the ground so he didn't know what to do with them. I hope to work much more with him this year. BTW He is a golden retriever. A breed that is mostly a pet anymore. His father was imported from Quebec and his mom is a fine duck dog. A hunting buddy of mine owns both parents.

Great pic reagan! Thanks for sharing. That is a haul and a "stately" looking pooch as well. I own a beagle and no way in hell is he posing for a pic like that with all that scent on the ground right at his feet, dead or not! LOL!

Check out my bunny thread. No way those beagles will sit still for anything. I forgot about this pic. Not really much of a hunt. More like shooting some birds near the house. The doves were his official start to birds falling from the sky.

Hard to beat a bird hunt with a good dog!

It's hard to believe that my big knucklehead dog grew from this little guy.
