Long shot here. Can't remember when a sitting president ever said anything about sportsmen while not on the campaign trail. Is it possible CWD may get on the federal radar? Seems a real debacle considering there is no consistent approach towards CWD in the US. What other major disease problem has such a lackluster approach to research and mitigation?
Only a brief blurb, but at the 20:13 second mark he mentions outdoorsmen. I'm starting to get the picture that once he puts something on his radar, he's going to go after a solution. The simple fact that there's no consensus on whether it's safe to eat CWD positive venison should be reason enough to get serious about iron clad research and guidance.

Your last sentence is why I fully support the DNR with their present efforts. I hope by reducing deer numbers we can slow the spread.
Thinking of treaty rights for Mille Lacs and areas to the east. The treaty says the rights exist "at the pleasure of the President".
