What are your guys thoughts on braided fishing line. Using 20 lbs test but 6 lbs diameter sounds good to me. But at what cost. Also no line twist when you spool it I hear.

I've tried it and didn't like it. It wasn't bad in any specific way, just felt weird or something. Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways and don't like "different". Anyhow, I went back to mono the next season and was happier.

I went to Fireline about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Love the no-stretch feel. Far fewer break-offs since I made the switch.

one other thing, and I should research this further, is that I don't feel like I have to change my line every year anymore. For the limited amount of fishing I get to do anymore I always hated switching out my mono every season. Call me lazy I guess.

I could easily switch to 30lb test mono and still catch fish... and never have a bass break line again but I don't "like" the feel of it. Not saying I will never give braided a shot again, I just preference 6-8lb mono.

Get yourself a spool of PowerPro, throw it on your favorite rod and reel combo, and take 'er out for a spin. The only way you can make this determination for your own use is to try it. I use braided on all my ice fishing rods, but I have switched back to mono for my summer fishing. Strictly personal preference, no other reason.

I made the switch on a couple of reels this year. I am getting sick of changing out the mono every year. Gets's expensive when I have about a dozen to re-spool every year. I added a clear fluorocarbon leader to the braid, tying the right knot to join the braid to fluoro is a bitch for these old eyes. lol My plan is to try the 2 with braid and if it works, change over all of them next year. If you do change Brad get the bright yellow as it makes it easy to see where your line is. With adding the fluoro leader the fish can't see the bright yellow line.

I'm an old die hard Berkley XL mono guy. I mainly just fish walleyes. Every spring I just strip off about 100 ft of line and just spool on a fresh 100. I can freshen up 8 or nine rods with one 300 yard roll. No need to empty the whole spool every time, and mono is WAY cheaper than braid or fluorocarbon that way.

For Bass I use braided with a 3' mono leader. Works awesome but I only fish with rubber worms.
