I recall reading recently that there has been a review of the WI CWD plan and new recommendations are going to be made regarding management of the disease. Does anyone know more about this? Do the new recommendations have to be approved by the NRB?
I believe one of the recommendations was localized culling if I recall?

There is a recommendation for localized culling but if you keep reading there is no money available to cull to the extent they would have to. So culling is pretty much a mute point.

Interesting. It would be quite the turnaround if WI started culling again

Interesting. It would be quite the turnaround if WI started culling again I didn't quite state that right. Culling would only happen if a new outbreak occurred and they felt that it would help. They than went on to say there was little to no money to do this as it cost approximately 400 dollars per deer so in all likely hood this would not happen. In my opinion this is more a scare tactic to get hunters to harvest more deer in these areas. Like if you don't shoot more deer we will bring in the sharp shooters.

Yesterday's MN ODN had an interview with Mike Samuels, retiring PhD from UW.
"Optimistic" is not a word I'd use in describing Samuels' opinion on how to manage CWD in WI.

There is a lot of social management going on in WI and I don't blame them. But bills like the one I linked are beyond dumb. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Feeding deer in northern WI is extremely commonplace. Just a week or two ago I saw a blow up on social media because some local had "narced" on a hotel that was still feeding deer in Vilas County. This place was kind of "famous" for the deer pics they'd post and for having a place their guests could watch the deer. Deer feeding is a form of entertainment for a lot of people up north...not a whole lot to do there in the summer, but winters are long and dull.

Iowa has CWD now and it is in one of the top counties for deer--Allamakee.
The state is a big buck paradise, but some of the resident hunters are simply out of touch with reality on CWD. They are still worried about NR hunters getting extra doe tags. Meanwhile they are wiping out deer near Harpers Ferry, even out of season, free tags and asking hunters to shoot older deer.

My buddy north of Madison just had a CO tell him he can't foodplot in the CWD zone. I guess every state has some douche bag COs...the regs specifically state that you CAN plant foodplots.

Other than causing future issue for yourself, I eventually would have got pissed and called that asshole to task to show me the statute. Fucking arrogance of the badge.

^^^I agree. My buddy didn't know, he believed the guy. I thought my buddy was pranking me when he told me the story...nope. I sent him the pdf of the regs showing that foodplotting is indeed allowed.
