I had a new find on the property today. Prickly Gooseberry. Just happened to catch my eye as I was checking cams on the edge of the woods. I hadn’t seen any before in person.

Then what? Can you eat them, and when? You can eat them if you want to peel off the spikes otherwise you can smash and separate the juice to make jelly or sauce. Guess it tastes like a sweet n sour tart candy. More than likely I’ll never beat the wildlife too them when they ripen. I did release this one and will keep an eye out for more. Cool to see if nothing else.

Cool to see if nothing else. Oh absolutely. When I lived in Duluth, I got to try a few different pies at Betty's (not a house of ill repute) in Two Harbors. I could swear one of them was gooseberry.
