Jeff Johnson does not win- I vanish from MN deer issues forever. You have made that statement before. It sounds more like giving up than anything else I have read here.

No. Fuckers like Taylor Bestor are part of the problem. Completely dumb and blind to it all Anyone that rolls over and gives up is part of the problem. Because they don't truly care. You can walk away and ignore it, but to claim 'nothing we do matters' is bullshit. Progress has come and to ignore that is bullshit. If Johnson loses and you give up, you are like many of us. Maybe that is smart to just move on. I have been sleeping better lately. Too involved for a period for me and I need to back away. We did make progress when goal setting for our area and Brooks was on that team.

You can walk away and ignore it, but to claim 'nothing we do matters' is bullshit. Progress has come and to ignore that is bullshit. Rolls over and gives up? Remember, I have NO skin in your game, never hunted MN in my life so I have nothing to walk away from and I don't "ignore it", I just call it like I see it. Up to this point, "nothing you have done has mattered", at least not effectively speaking. Mine is just the perspective of someone who's DNR somewhat acknowledges the thoughts and opinions of the states hunters, at least enough to allow YOU to see "30 dead deer in a 2 hour drive" vs the zero deer you saw once you crossed the river. Even IF your guy gets elected Governor, you have at least 4 to 6 years before you see anything close to the changes and opportunities you would need to improve your statewide population to levels like we have east of the river. Well, at least you can rest easy knowing that Landwehr feels the newest plan is now "sharing a vision" with you and the rest of the hunters of MN. You can claim "progress" once you have management unit level participation groups who's input is actually considered as valid and is at least considered part of the deer management teams "metrics" that go into deciding population and harvest goals, until then, I fear you are pissing into the wind.
Not sure what you were meaning by this..."I vanish from MN deer issues forever.", as you are still the President of MBA correct? That would imply that you are at least somewhat involved in deer issues via proxy, or will you step down or refuse to run for reelection in 2020 if "your guy" doesn't win the Governorship this fall? It is a good call though, a change at the top in Madison is what it took to get the needle moving in the right direction here in WI, rallying the voters is probably your best option at this point.
Sorry, but that is the way I see it as an outside observer who has seen DNR issues similar to these for 35+ years, pretty much since I was old enough to hunt. See it, call it, moving on...

Johnson won the Republican nod and if he can beat Pawlentt will be on the ballot in November.
I have him committed to adopting the WI cdac program.
He worked the deer and turkey classic and will be working game fair on a deer and Mille lacs platform.
He is our only shot for the near future, we are near the top of his radar.
But whip is right - we won’t win unless he is elected, and nobody else has any plans for change.

This like many fights I've been involved in, win or lose, here's what I want to come away with. I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and those that'll come after me and say, "I did everything I could."

I am sure seeing commercials from Pawlentys team doing the smearing of Johnson already.
Johnson has a tough row to hoe. I imagine Pawlenty has a huge bankroll behind him. I have not seen any Jeff Johnson commercials yet.
Think of how many people vote based on commercials they see. How many voters actually know the stance any candidate has on several key issues? Not very many. My wife votes on commercials she sees basically. I have asked her outright. What is John Does stance on this, that or otherwise? She has no idea at all. Its all a vote based on commercials and billboards is all..... I dont like it, but its what most voters do.

I read one of the collared deer in the SE MN CWD study travelled 80 miles and lots of them traveled 5 miles. I'm guessing that will be used as an excuse to expand the cwd kill zone, which is bad news for this guy (and many others).

They want to expand the CWD zone as far as possible. This collard "science" will be give them all the justification they will ever need

From a colllared deer focus group
i received the first movement map, havent been able to get the one showin the cannon falls travelers yet. But confirmed its true... Ive read articles about long distance movement so i wasnt that surprised. But still amazing... The comment made at the focus group i went to mentioned the surveillance zone probably wasnt large enough. 🤷🏼♂️

The sooner more people get angry with the CWD surveillance (via increasing zone size) the sooner new strategy can be adapted.
Anyone else think this is reasonable logic?
