Has anyone ever used DMAP? I know its available in WI, but is it or an equivalent available in MN? Any thoughts, experiences, opinions on the program would be greatly appreciated. I ask because I am considering signing up a 160 acre chunk in central WI that I am helping to manage.

Don't they basically tell you how to manage your property for deer/wildlife? I don't think a second opinion has ever hurt anyone but I wouldn't sign up for something that was going to force me to do something on my land.

The plan they provide is voluntary, I would not expect a whole lot other than harvest goals. They do require you to report harvest data, weight, lactation status, jaw bone age, which would be good info to have regardless. In exchange, the owner would get cheaper doe tags if they decide the population is too high. It would be nice to have some in depth knowledge on population monitoring, but inviting government agents onto the land just feels risky sometimes.

I don;t know the program. Just make sure you understand ever possible aspect of it before you sign anything. Some of them seem fairly harmless and helpful, and then you find out that if you break some rule they fine the shit out of you and the like or you give up some sort of rights or the like. Sharing info with the DNR is one thing. Then telling you what you have to do is an entirely different thing!
