I've been wanting to raise a crop of garlic for years so I tried something new. I had a rock on the camp lawn that I had to mow around. I took a load of 2 year old wood chips and made a mound. Added 4" of soil. Planted the garlic cloves 2" deep. Then cover the mound with some of my leftover promix. I had planned to fence this with 2' wire but, didn't have time. It'll be rock solid soon. Not sure if voles it garlic?? Hopefully next fall there'll be 40 head of garlic there.

I tried growing some garlic anout 25 years ago when we rented. Fall planted. Watched it grow all summer. Duncan, the neighbors blue tick hound came over and dug it up and ate it all.

I've been reading up on that same thing. I'd like to get a low maintenance garden going next year. Still trying to figure out what to put in it, but garlic and onions are one of the candidates.

This guy is a little green but, he plants nuts in with the garlic. The garlic must keep the critters and deer away. That's a ton of garlic in his field.

It looks like some garlic made it through the winter. Hopefully more will pop up.

Make sure you harvest the scapes on time. When do you think? July?? I'm not sure when it happens, I just know you need to get them off at some point to get the bulb to develop.

I’m not sure on that because a lot of people here keep them on so they can hang the garlic bulbs from them. I guess I’ll need to read up more. The last time we grew garlic (about 25 years ago) the garlic was almost ready and the neighbors blue tick coon hounds came over and dug it all up and ate it.

Check the youtube and google a little bit. It might depend too on whether you're growing hard or soft neck. Again, I know enough to help confuse, but not help.

The garlic mound is looking good. The deer nipped a few before green up but, no further browsing. I checked one and the garlic bulb has turned into a garlic head. I believe there were 35 heads growing here now.

I didn’t get a cage around the mound yet. I noticed something had eaten the top and part of the bulb on one of the garlic heads. I was thinking skunk or sister in-law’s rat dog dachshund that is worthless. Well we finished eating last night and my wife says there was a hen turkey on the lower lawn. We watched her feed and she headed over to the garlic mound and was pecking away in there so I guess turkeys like garlic. We have a hen next every 3-4 years but, I’ve nevwr seen any produce poults.
