I built a box blind for the kids and guest to hunt out of. I'm considering how to make it huntable no matter the wind direction. This may be a goofy question but can they be sealed up enough to contain scent? I'm assuming I can plexiglass the windows and use foam spray to seal the cracks in my wonderful carpentry skills. Is this worth doing or is it a pipe-dream?

I have wondered if a ten or fifteen piece of conduit placed up as a chimney would release scent high above deer’s noses.
Then, maybe you could keep one window open for shooting.

That would definitely keep the scent minimal. After this last week decided we are going to building a few enclosed blinds at my place for next year. With all the wetlands around here, elevated enclosed blinds will make a lot of difference. The older guys are in our 50’s and we are going to set up for our next 20-30 years.

Yep, nothing's perfect but I think it can greatly improved. I agree with Art, some type of pipe that would carry your scent high in the air would help.

I sure wouldnt be that worried about scent in a fully enclosed blind. If u practice scent control on a ladder stand do the same for a box blind and enjoy. I am getting simpler as I get older I guess.

Nose jammer. Bullet proof.

I actually considered the chimney idea previously but figured thermals would screw me. I wonder if a vent and activated charcoal filter would work in a tightly sealed box?
I wouldn't hunt this spot from a ladder stand without a perfect wind (due west... which is rare).
I can just see my buddies... "here, hunt this stand by the driveway but you have to smell like sugar cookies!". I'd be better off telling them they have to smell like skunk or fox piss.
I'm going to try this with a simple seal job and see how it goes.

I have seen chimneys with carbon filters installed on them to further reduce odors.
I think I saw Winke or someone shrink wrap one of their blinds to make them scent proof.

Chimneys with carbon filters??? Where? I see hundreds of box blinds on my way up. Not one with even a chimney. Haaa. Thats over the top if its even possible or actually real.

I watched these 2 for more than 20 minutes. Enclosed blind, 10' high, all windows open with a west wind. They we're east of the blind. I sprayed down with nose jammer before I walked in and gave a shot once in the blind. Was it the blind or the jammer or a combination of both. Beats me but I'll continue to use jammer.

Its a combo of both. I can take strangers to the shadow hunter and some of the does get fidgety if we don't use our Jammer.

What's the best way to make windows that can be shot out of? Do you hing them or slide them?

I prefer a slide window. Your hands stay out view, gravity does not move them shut after you open them, changing angle of sun does not reflect at the deer.

The trick with scent control in blind is to use same scent control as you do in tree stand. Then when in blind keep your back and side windows closed. No matter what wind you have if you have side and back windows closed your scent stays in blind. Had deer bed 3 feet in front of blind with wind blowing right at them. Also had a big doe rubbing her self against the blind with front window open. I could of reached out and scratched her back. I have an old Shadow Hunter blind so the outside shutters/windows are grey so when they are open they appear as black hole which makes the deer a little nervous. The new Shadow Hunters are black so deer don't have the reaction. This summer my outside shutters/windows Will be painted black.
