Cat. What if you would buy a roll of cement wire and make a circle fence with it. Plant wild plums in it and leave it grow for five to ten years. Plant a rim of red cedars around the outside of it. Maybe leave a gap between the fence and cedars, maybe not. The fence could act as a funnel until you remove it. I have crab/ plum fenced areas like that and deer walk around them. That's a hell of an idea! I've been contemplating the "fence off 10-20 acres" thing and thinking BIG, but haven't given much thought to small islands of fence. I can't fence off big chunks like that right now, but I could start islands of cover in key spots with the assumption that they will eventually spread. 150' of fence costs $130 and makes a circle almost 50ft across. That's plenty of space to get something started and I could probably build 8 of them for the same price as building a quarter mile of barbed wire fence. Hell, I bet I could even get away with throwing a crab-apple in the middle of them. I'll look into this! Might even just do one right away and see what happens. It's just and exclusion cage...

I am Ethically opposed to the concept of fencing deer out of wild spaces.
Only a white male would talk about such things.
I am offended And have labeled you all racists.

Are you going to hire protesters? As soon as I find a govt grant to fund it the angry masses will likely try burn your fence to the ground.

I'm feeling darn stupid right now.

You are in the right crowd! Thanks Refresh my memory... how big is your exclusion cage? I have several. Two are made of one full roll of cement wire which was 150 feet long.

I can't imagine that anything I put up won't have cattle leaning on it within hours of erection. No cattle have had access to my exclosures. They are just egg shaped as I rolled the cement wire out. I suspect good wooden posts would help with cattle around.
