I was at my place today, here are two Red Splendor, one with 1-1.25" and one pea size. Both are holding well. Did you break one of those one inch open? Maybe a red flesh that can be used for cider. I have a couple red flesh around the property. I have not inventoried them but as I taste them I have come across them. I'd like to top work some of my trees. I also have crabs that don't produce fruit, can I graft to them and will they produce?

I would say graft and see. You might have varieties that are slow to mature.

What all do you see using yours? Three years ago I planted 50 bare root red splendors. This year they grew a few inches higher than the tree tubes. Not sure how long until I see fruit on those. How tall are your tubes? If the tubes are short the deer will eat the leader and you will get allot of lower limb growth similar to a shrub. My trees are spread across my fields so I have not watch them for use. Deer do love to browse the branches as I have seen the damage. Red Splendor was recommended as part as of my CRP planting for pheasant and deer. 5 foot tubes

That my protect them through spring green up. After grew up they may leave them alone enough for them to get to the above browse line phase.

Example of one of the taller ones that were planted April 2016. I haven't done much with them other than water them the first summer and keep the tubes cleaned out. Should I consider removing the tubes at a certain height?

Should I consider removing the tubes at a certain height? I would keep the tubes on the tree, it will protect them from being rubbed and will not hurt their growth in any way. I still have tubes on mine and many of them have 2+" diameters

Here are two trees that were loaded with robins when I walked up to them. I tried giving both a shake but maybe only one or two apples per tree fell. First tree Second tree I picked a few and through them on the ground for the rabbits/deer Those are great looking crabs, do you know what variety they are? Always nice to see trees that produce that much fruit.
