Need to keep trails open (4 wheel/deer/stand entry/exit, etc)... Looking to cut pencil to thumb diameter stems primarily. Buckthorn infested quick regrowth. Been thinking about this Echo, but many much cheaper options with 3 blade cutting surfaces that may work? Not interested in push or pull-behind implements. Thoughts?

Not sure on how that unit works or its cost but I will say I am very impressed and happy with my Stihl FS 110 www.gardenland.com/product/stihl-fs-110-bike-line-trimmer/

Cheapest I've found the Echo is $560 on ebay. Do you have the brush cutter attachment for the Stihl or just use it as a weed whip?
I already have an Echo weed whip so this purchase will be solely for the woods

I already have an Echo weed whip so this purchase will be solely for the woods I don't even use the weed whip. I just leave my brushcutter on all the time. I can slam through the brush like it is nothing.

Time out. I think I have the FS 130 now. Not the 110. Looking at the pictures and specs. I would have to wait till Thursday to see it for sure to tell you which one I have. I've never felt underpowered at all whichever one I have.
Lastely. Get the harness whatever one you get. Your arms will thank you

I have a heavy duty Stihl version with a table saw style blade on the end (I can't remember the model number off hand). It works great on what you describe. My buddy bought a Stihl version that is a little smaller and that also works great on the small stuff like you describe, but not quite as well on bigger stuff.
I've had my stihl for a couple years now and it works great. If I had to get another one I'd buy the same one.
I will say though that I have an Echo leaf blower and that thing is awesome. I have no idea how their brush cutters are though.

Good to know. Those 25-30 cc units may be all I need. Save some cash too. You run a circular blade or brush knife style?

The 3 blade works good on small brush.
We have an echo and a ryobi with brush blades of bothtypes. The circular saw is mandatory for anything half inch or larger.

I have the Husqvarna version. I use a similar blade to what Brad uses. My 40 has lots of rocks so the blade get dull fast if you bump one.

I have a lightly used Stihl fs110 or 130 I would sell you. Just changed the gas out and winterized it. I don't use it enough to suck up the garage space. Been selling a buck of shit I can rent for the minimal hours I use it. PM me if you want to peak at int in Monti some time./

We had a FS 130 at the farm to help clear fence lines and I always took it and used it. Thing was a beast. Agree, the harness is a must. We used the circular chisel tooth. I would sharpen it on the grinder after a couple of uses. I plan on buying a new one for myself in the coming weeks, the FS 131 i believe is what it is now.
