Got an fs460 and a 9 inch circular blade that does a good amount of damage on 1 to 5 inch saplings...wouldnt want anything less powerful for that job. Got a three bladed knife for small brush and coarse grass I havent tried yet. My plan is to use that blade on trails once in August to keep the brush and shrubs from taking over

Haha some beer, mostly Diet Coke and Mt Dew, lol...
Sheesh, how spendy is a 460? I used a 130 at work for a couple of years and it chewed through small trees and brush

I used a 130 at work for a couple of years and it chewed through small trees and brush I think it was about $1300 with extra blade. Took me a year or so to justify taking the plunge. I had a big NRCS EQUIP contract to cut junk trees/brush on 6 acres so it helped tackle that

Gotta say.....I have a 5 foot wide cutter hooked to the back of my tractor......and I paid $900 for it. I can cut brush up to 3" at a walking speed. Not sure what advantage a hand-held would be.

Terrain can dictate a lot of what can or cant be used. We have 2 hand held brushcutters that have been used a lot over the years. There are hillsides that not even the ATV and roughcut mower could be used.... gotta get out on foot. Also, using the handheld is much more selective. ATV and tractor mowers are great if you want to mow a trail. Handhelds allow you to pick and choose what you are cutting down.

They are Expensive, but I have 3/4 of a mile of swamp shooting lanes that need to be cut and it works perfect for that.

I have to let the rpms get pretty high to get in the power band it seems like.

If the flail mower would work in my swamp shooting lanes i would probably get one. It's too damn wet in most spots and the ground is squishy around the million stumps, so even if they are cut flush you hit them with a pulled cutter. I learned that the hard way in the dry spots with my swisher rough cut pulled behind an atv
There are thousands of black spruce and Tamarac seedlings that sprout in the shooting lanes and need to be cut every 2 years or so. I did it with a chainsaw for 8 years and that was enough. The Stihl brush cutter is much faster and a thousand times easier on the back.

I forgot to follow up. I picked up the Stihl FS 131 last week. It'll take up to 1.5" fast as you can walk and bigger if you stop. At only 12 lbs it's easy to go through a few tanks of gas with it.

I picked up an FS 131 this afternoon. Can’t wait to break it in tomorrow! You got the same blade guard I did. I'm going to swap it out for the small metal blade guard. That big plastic one gets in the way if you're cutting high stem count and moving fast.
