On my land I keep the tall, straight black cherry trees and I cut the crooked goofy shaped ones. I like burning cherry and the lumber value is high for a large, straight tree. The tiny fruit feeds the birds and bears, but I've never seen any deer use.

I have seen where deer browse young cherry trees and suspect they eat a few cherries.

At my old house I had some black cherry in my yard. Deer would hit em hard when they dropped but I believe that was late summer. That was also overpopulated city deer that may be hungrier than farm country deer.

I too think its black cherry...here they mostly feed the birds, but also bring good timber $$ if you can get them big enough...mine tend to have health issues as many bugs and birds like the sap. I remove the crooked ones and the damaged ones... They don't tend to create a dense canopy so I don't mind having some around, but I don't see much deer value to them.

Could you cut it up for logs? If so, good demand, there is a guy in my area that pays top price for black cherry. We just do not have many in our area.
