It's crunch time for many state legislatures across the country. Most are working on their budgets for the next two years, and they have to be in place by the time the new fiscal year starts, which is typically July 1st. I say theater because the kicked-can problems are getting bigger and harder to paper over, or "kick." MN is no exception, however their problem is a split legislature (the only one left in the US). Sunday evening is the deadline for the state to have a deal, or be forced into special session. It usually makes for good live streaming as the clock winds down, because most of the people running those chambers are idiots and aren't savvy enough to abide by parliamentary procedure. So what ends up happening is the majority will ram home some shit in a shady fashion at the last minute and the minority party will start screaming and bitching. It'll also be fun to watch the blue states squirm as they are forced onto separate teams to defend their turf due to out of control inflation and chronic lack of revenue. It's education vs. state workers vs. welfare vs. local government vs. state retirees vs. bond holders. Somebody is going to pay, and there will be blood. www.house.leg.state.mn.us/SessionDaily/Story/13970

This is a rent-a-mob from Education MN in the rotunda today. Lots probably won't get done while the big interests are battling over the moose calf.

Conference committee audio I hsve Followed has had no substance. I watched some of the live stuff from today, and they didn't do anything near as I could tell. Sounds like it all hinges on the budget deal. No clue if any of the omnibus bills are even done yet. Still lots of shit in conference committees that isn't guaranteed to make it out of conference, much less both chambers again in 26 hours. Gonna be fun watching tomorrow when they convene.

Email your congressman and let them know your thoughts. i for one don't think a state with an annual operating surplus needs to increase taxes. The gas tax will find its way into the general fund and using education/children as a negotiated pawn is an overused tactic. The Dems want a huge slush fund, we should not give it to them.

The blue states are eating their producers bite by bite. State government inflation is outstripping revenue growth. When the Foggy's an Mo's leave, the divide gets larger. It's economic cannibalism. The Mogue has fallen. Eat, be eaten, or move to Arizona.

I'm not sure if an electoral college would work in a state like Minnesota, to small of scale probably.

I'm not sure if an electoral college would work in a state like Minnesota, to small of scale probably. The way it is set up now is redundant. The senate is a copy of the house districts with half as many people. The house should be cut down to one representative per county, and the senate by equal sized population districts. The twin cities would have the senate, and greater MN would have the house.

Now the shit damn is breaking wide open. The ag finance bill (SF2226) was rammed home in the conference committee. There wasn't even a meeting. It was ironed out in darkness and put to the conferees to sign, with no time to read it. The big sticker is $40 million to subsidize rural broadband, which is apparently on the verge of going obsolete anyway?
They've started yelling. They've got 7 minutes left...

Sounded like anything not finished by 5 pm yesterday was moving up to Walz Gazelka and Head Libtard for 3 way showdown? Last night, there were 8 bills in conference committee. That has ballooned to 19 this morning. The head dorks were thinking they could get this done in a day or two. Unless these committees work outside special session, I don't see it happening. www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/cc/
