I purchased a Hook 2 5 Split Shot. What does activating the navionics card and putting it in the depth finder accomplish?

It'll give you topo maps of the bottom of the lake: worth it.
I don't fish anymore, sold the boat. But I had the lakemaster system, same kind of thing. Loved it. I think it was called lakemaster.

Without using the card, I now have depths in the Lawrence.
I was wondering if I get better maps.
Second concern, and I don’t completely understand this technology. I need to activate the chip in a computer. Then place it in the depth finder.
If I place it back in the computer, will they find or share my way points or upgrade their lake maps?
I find that a few of my fishing holes are not indicated in the pre loaded maps. That is fine by me. The depth changes in small areas are not indicated.

This winter, a person said their is a better system than navionics. It might have been lakemaster. Are they from central Minnesota?
It seems like you had to pay a fee per lake.

I bought the "minnesota" chip, for Lakemaster. I may have had SD also. I forget.
1. The maps are way better in my experience. Without the system, you get a few depths and big rock outcroppings marked. With it, you get very detailed topographic information, way more detailed.
2. They won't share your waypoints.
3. It's way better than the stock maps.
I wouldn't buy a unit that DIDN'T have this available, or Lakemaster. They literally run boats back and forth on a grid measuring with sonar and put it all into the map.

New Lake master map chips work with Hummingbird fish finders and Minn kota trolling motors. The Lakemaster chips are sold for different areas. There is a specific chip for Minnesota. On any Lakemaster map chip there are High definition maps of the popular lakes that give you 3 foot contours. The new Lakemaster chips will not work in Lowrance fish finders.

True story
My BIL and I were out fishing in my old Crestliner one day on a lake in SD. I think it's Oakwood. This is before I had the SD chip. We launch the boat and are hauling ass to get out around to the other side of the lake where there's less wind. (This is SD after all)
Up in the distance I see a couple things floating in the water, one's red, one's green. They look like painted Clorox bottles and I thought they were probably just garbage. I'm doing about 29MPH and have the boat trimmed up nice, right to the point where it's on the edge of getting squirrely. My hat's on backwards, and I'm wearing my bitchen blue sunglasses. I had a cup of coffee in my console. Life was good.
That's when it all got a little Western. Over to my left I distinctly see two boats with a couple guys each, fishing along the bank. I assume they were going after bass. They all sort of stopped fishing at the same moment and stared at us, I thought with admiration. My hat was on backwards, the boat was trimmed up, and again, I was wearing my bitchen blue sunglasses. I gave them a little parade wave like I was Princess Di. Then, simultaneously ripped off my lower unit. Neither of us fell in. But, we had to use my trolling motor to get back to the ramp. The guys I waved to didn't budge an inch to help us out.
Lessons learned: 1. Sometimes the locals put buoys out for a reason. 2. Slow the F down until you know the place. 3. Don't be an asshole on a new lake. Wait until you scope the place out first, then be a wake making prick. 4. Buy the chip for your boat computer thing.

Took my helix 10 mega side mega down Ethernet hooked to a Terrova on the river last night. Fuck me is that cool. Cheating.
Marked 4 good fish and punched the spot in, came back and spot locked the terrova and caught two 20 inch walleye and a 22 inch pike. Then the property owner fired up hid lawnmower and walked down to mow by the river 20 feet away.

Side imaging and spot lock are awesome. Last summer I had my wife with me, used the side imaging to locate bluegills holding in 18 feet of water in trees that the DNR tipped into the lake. Could also see a few pike and walleye just laying next to the branches, just couldn't get them to eat. Took 45 minutes to get out limit of gills.
