Where's the beef?
I have only used lump a few times, but I remember that stuff lasting forever vs briquettes. I have to pick up a bag for camp, and I'm leaning that direction. I get into longer cooks with veggies ahead of meat.
What say you?

I prefer natural split wood. It takes a long time to burn down into coals which means you have to sit there and drink beer longer before you throw on the food. It's a pretty tough job, but someone has to do it-

I sent the salamander to the Home Depot to get paint supplies. I had her pick me up a bag of lump.

Yep, go solar like the bat said.
I personally would rather cook over wood than either type of briquette, and I bet you have plenty of that on hand since you've done all that saw work over the winter. Or grab a bag of each type, problem solved.

Takes me 30-40 minutes on low to get the uppers cooked and the ones touching the bottom golden brown/crunchy. When I've rushed it, I've ended up with burnt and undercooked taters. The long cook is also good for fish. Fill and aluminum pan with fillets as deep as you want. Top with butter, fresh squeezed lemon juice, whole garlic, and some salt/pepper. Leave uncovered to cook moisture out. Easy way to feed a big crew.
