SD
I think your mower plan has merit. But I question you choice in TV shows. Touched by an Angel. Really?

Here's a solution for SD. I wonder if replacing the pedal bike with a newer E-Bike would be up his alley. No wait.....I dont think you can recharge those bikes with solar. Nevermind. FORE

That's still a rotary mower. I would be all in if that had been a flail or sickle mower. Maybe I should just get one of those grim reaper grain knives that the amish use.

Maybe you should be looking for a Yamaha Terapro? uploadAnd DR has some pull type rotaries that would save you some coin (and work better IMO).

Do you need thatch with all the moisture you get up there? I would think that you would want things to dry out rather than retain wetness. I get creative with mow paths do distribute wind-rows to where I want them... but in truth I would rather have one of your fancy European mowers or better yet a sicklebar.

I'm going to try using some flash cards I have made to keep the focus on cost, capability, space savings, and multi-functioning. This is my "no-rotary" flash card. This is my "pro-flail" flash card. This pushes us 10% over the $3,995 when you also add in the cost of a riding lawn mower ($2500), cause that thing ain't gonna make the tight spots mowing around trees, solar panels, fire pit and the drive way. This would also consume all of my garage space and probably more.

I need the thatch to slow down seed eaters. The plot dries out, thatch or not. It just takes a little while longer in spring.

Sense you guys were talking flail mowers here is a unit with an articulating 3 point hitch so you can center or offset the unit. These are at Abra Equipment just south of Cross Lake. Foggy, this would be sweet unit, italian made. I called this place to get a price on the Flail Mower Shown. It's a 7' wide with the side shift hydraulics.....and is rated up to 3" brush according to the sales guy.....but that seems a bit much IMO. Anyway.....the price was MSRP $8625 and they would sell it for $6625. Still.....waaaay more than I want to spend. According to the guys at TBN....the Woodmaxx is the current good buy out there.....and with hydraulic side shift you can buy one for about $2900 and "free" shipping. I get tempted to do one of these so I can reach out along my trails and not tear up my tractor......as well as other issues......like a nice mulched cut.....not so much scalping, etc. Just seems like too much stuff going on at one time for me now. I think this Seppi M is a good brand.....but they do get paid for them. I think Seppi is big in forestry mulching biz....and high end units for skid steers....etc.

Foggy should buy a tank, not a mower.

Foggy should buy a tank, not a mower. I think YOU need to buy one of those Bobcats with a forestry mulcher on the the front. You could find a little work and become useful to society again. . (touche' - grin)

It took a few years, but I am adding this merit badge to my habitat jacket. I've earned it. Leaf Blower Gypsum Chain saw planting Stabbin' Cabin Pro-pain Solar Barley and now... Flail mower

Look at this one? I am dead set about not having a wheeler and tractor simply because I don't have space for them and a tractor would never carry on my mud. But holy nuts does this thing leave your duff nearly vaporized and evenly distributed.
