I few years back I got two pup sections of cultipacker from my buddy. One was functioning and has worked well for me and one had the rollers/packers rusted to the shaft. I'd like to turn the two small sections into one large one, but I need to free the rusted on parts. I tried pounding and using bolt buster penetrating spray without much luck. It didn't seem to penetrate too well but I only put it on periodically.
Any suggestions on how to separate the rusted rollers from the shaft? I thought about dragging it over a bumpy road, but I'm worried that may break the parts I'm trying to salvage.

Heat and flash it with extreme cold. Most dust off spray cans when turned upside down and sprayed will spray out extremely cold. I'm talking freeze your fingers sub zero cold. On a large project it may not be cost effective but I have used this method for years removing bearings from shafts that wouldn't come any other way. What you do is heat the object not red hot but very hot. Once hot hit it with the cold. The shock will free about anything. You may have to do it a few times but it has never failed me. Dust off made by Falcon is what I use. Good luck

I'd just pull it around until it works loose.....If that main shaft rotates.

Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully I can have some luck. This has been on my to-do list for about 8 years, so this seems like a good time to get back to it.

This is exactly how we install the giant pivot pins into the bushings on the lock gate projects we do for the USACE here on the Mississippi River dams. |
