For panfish. Does anyone have one or have comments on different ones?
I have been using my short ultralight and having a ball on sunfish, a few crappies, bass, and an occasional walleye.
I was thinking a six and a half or seven footer would be better.

I’d get a 7’ but it’s tough to find 1 piece 7 footers.

For the money I like a Fenwick HMX. But I have not tried any other brands for the past 4 or 5 years.
Stay away from anything branded Browning.

I've got a 12 footer. Can't really cast it but it's great for jigging brushpiles and moss lines.

St Croix makes an excellent ultra light but it is short. Take a look at a 12 foot crappie rod. Got one a couple years ago and use it on occasion. Fun to fish with and the action is the same as an ultra light.

St Croix makes a panfish series 6’9” UL. It seems like a decent pole. Can’t really go wrong with st Croix.

Thanks for the replies.
Looking on the internet, I see some of these UL rods have a long handle below the reel. Any reason for that? Balance?
Will it just poke short fat guys in the gut?
Do you need two hands on the handle to cast? This ain’t a Musky rod.

The gut is just a good anchor point for fighting those giant panfish.

St Croix is where I’d start. I got a couple walleye rods and they are fantastic I would like to do a side by side comparison of their 6 6 UL spinning rod with the 6 9 UL panfish rod. I wonder if the extra 3 inches is just handle length.

I wonder if the extra 3 inches is just handle length. I had the st Croix 6’6” UL before switching to G Loomis. It’s a nice rod. Handle is nicely sized. My mom has the 6’9” panfish series. It seems more flimsy. Handle may be a touch longer. I really like both of the 6’6” ones I’ve had. St Croix and G Loomis. They are almost identical in handle length if I remember correctly.

Gave her a new one.
