Side question, does anyone mow their clover with a finish mower? I don't currently plant any clover but thinking about it for next year. Thinking ahead...

Nope, I just use my swisher rough cut for clover/alfalfa/chicory. I'm sure that you could do it with a finish mower if you had the ability to set it high enough.

I've never experienced the pitfall of mowing too short. Never been dry enough or hot enough to slow down clover by me. I usually struggle with too much rain. This is the first year I didn't get 3-5 inches per week since snow melt. I even drove the truck to the back corner of the property this past weekend.

I had a finish one and it didn't go high enough to mow decent. I sold it. Update, I sold that bitch on Saturday in 1 hr after listing on Craigslist. The guy I sold it to had one already and wanted another for mowing clover. He does a modification on them however and takes out the rods and welds longer rods to allow it to go higher. I didn't give a shit I wanted it out of my garage and he didn't balk at the price of $450 which is what I bought it for 6 years ago. Now, onto selling a 14' Lund with a 20 horse Johnson with an electric start...

Bought a 60 Inch Kunz finish cut for clover plots today $400. I have it up to 5 inches right now which should work just fine. The plots I have in the reed canary are doing much better, but they dont seem to come on until year 2 and 3. I believe I am getting closer to having enough plot space to fill with clover, vetch, trefoil, chicory, cereal grains and millet to feed a herd of 30 deer for 8 months out of the year. Mix in some forage Kale and we will see what happens. Mower can help keeps broadleafs down and grasses sprayed. Dont have to worry about corn or beans.

How do you manage the levels of protein, supplement feed or does your mix provide everything you need?

The mix will satisfy nutrition wise, and the goal is to eliminate as much supplement feed as I can.
