Laymans terms...If your magnesium levels are already at the high end, adding dolomitic lime will only increase the Cal/Mag ratio in favor of the Mg, thus binding other nutrients and not allowing for good absorption by the plants.
BTW Brad, keep that fucking thing so I don't have to hear your ass whining when you end up needing it in 3 years... Just kidding my friend, but I would NOT sell that spreader.
Brad, might be worth a call to these guys if you want to buy a shitload and store it at your place, they are in Green Bay and might have sources closer to you...

In terms of the spreader give me a situation where I would need it? But I would love to stick the money selling it into more pellet lime. That would help me obtain my goals better than a spreader I can't really use sitting there. Just my train of thought

Refresh my memory why you should use one type of lime vs the other. Every thing that I read says they both will correct your ph. I have failed you.

I think this is why one guy can get 230 bushels/ac and his neighbor across the road with identical soil can't crack 150.

For what it's worth you'll never find another at a reasonable price if you need it in the future. It's bought and paid for just tuck it in the corner. So if you follow the line of thinking your thinking now about selling the spreader are you also sell your roth loyal disk. You know you'll never get another. If you sell it you'll get dumb ass of the year award.

Thanks for the refresher in layman’s terms. The Cat didn’t offer much of a suggestion to me on my soil test. I think he discriminated since I’m not from MN. I was looking through old threads to verify what I need. My MG is good so no dolomitic for me.

Do you have a source of the ratios you need? I should temper this advice before I give it. For food plotting, it ain't necessary to "fix" everything. Instead, I'd look to do no further harm and start on a path to go towards right. Lots of guys can be outta whack and still grow stuff. It's when you have problems that getting this right may help you. For example, if you're all smeary clay and never dry out, it would pay to not make that worse. If you're all coarse dead sand and can't surface germinate brassicas, it would pay to not make that worse. If you're doing ok now, I'd just focus on trending the right direction from here.

You may find a source of Calcitic lime in bulk that is way cheaper than the pelletized from Menards. I know farmers that farm wet clay sure as hell don't use pelletized lime. Start checking with the co-ops in the area and see what they can find for you.
