One year I tried to graft all of these from GRIN, but didn't get takes from all of them. I need to go through and double check, but I think I may only have Trailman still growing.
There are 2 crabs growing in Long Prairie that I believe to be two of these stated varieties. I'd like to figure out what they are at some point, and the only way I know how is to grow them all in the same area and compare them.
Anybody here growing all 4 varieties?

2/4 I think. I have Trailman and I think I have A rescue that took but is a very slow grower due to neglect and wet soils. Trail and Shafer did not take.
Some of the Canadians have said Rescue is Superior to Shafer, so I gave up on it.
Trailman is a great crab.

From GRIN descriptions and other info I've gathered online, I am thinking LP VFW is Shafer. I can't get a reasonable ID on Tank though. Nothing I read about the four leads me to think Tank may be one of them. I am pretty sure it is not a rootstock crab.

I have Shafer and Trailman. The Shafer is only 2 years old and the Trailman is 4 years old so no fruit so far. Both seem to be doing well.

I've got two Tanks that are doing well. One was a cleft graft that I did at around 4'. The other is a bark graft at around 5'. Both are pushing 6.5' right now. I had a couple more, but they didn't take.

I drove past the location where Tank and LP VFW crabs used to grow. Tank is still there, at some point in the recent past LP VFW was cut down My LP VFW tree has been slow to wake up this spring. If it doesn't wake up, I'm hoping Art still has one growing.

That'd be the Courthouse crab from Little Falls, but thanks.

It looks like most of the fruit are about the size of a quarter right now, that's bigger than most of my wild crabs and my Whitney fruit. I'm anxious for my grafted trees to start producing

The entire tree looks like this. fruit You saw my Tank on second leaf and it is doing well. How do they taste?Right now they are tart. In another week or two, they'll be more sweet than tart. A good number of the fruit will hang all winter. This is clearly a tree that a municipality (L.P.) planted quite awhile ago (20-30 years?). It's possible this tree was simply an unnamed seedling. LPVFW grew on the other side of this tree. 3 ornamental crabs grow to the east. Is it possible they're all just seedlings? Sure. It strikes me as odd with the two on the west end of the planting (Tank and LPVF W) being named varieties and the rest being unnamed seedlings though.

I did..but what I've named them is pretty much meaningless
