I transplanted my tree last fall to our new house and it has about a dozen apples on it this year even though a rabbit buzzed a lot of the bark off late winter. They are definitely on the small side this year. I picked some Red Baron today. The tree is old and most were crab sized.

Most of my fruit are quite small this year.

I picked two that had holes in them from what I would assume birds or wasps. They tasted really good!

I picked two that had holes in them from what I would assume birds or wasps. They tasted really good! My Red Baron have been a disappointment. They looked clean up until two weeks ago and this happened. My Trailman were clean for 2/3 of the crop and then this started there. It is mainly on the sunny side of the apple and more so on the south side of the tree. Red Baron are not developing their usual red color. We do have some hail damage, but this started earlier.

Bastians Orange Flesh also looks like a slow drop. Taste is ok.

. I have two Martha Sweet crabs and I touched one and it fell off of the tree. Two of those beetles were on the stem and of it and might have caused it to drop. The texture was like an under ripe pear. I hope the other apple hangs in the tree for 7-10 days so I can taste it later.

Interesting, Art. I have no idea what the heck that would be from. It almost looks bruised?

Interesting, Art. I have no idea what the heck that would be from. It almost looks bruised? . I managed to collect enough apples to make cider by picking on the north side and the in side of the trees. I think you are correct about bruising. We had a bit of hail once, but after this started. Previous to that we had 3.5 inches of rain and very high winds over about 45 minutes. Maybe the rain or a bit of hail in that rain did it.

I added one a few years ago and it was probably based on this thread.
It hasn't produced fruit yet, but seems to be growing pretty well.

I didn't look back through the old posts, but I had a Red Baron from Walden Heights that I planted in 2015. It bore fruit pretty quickly and was growing great. Then one year it got hit hard with what I'm pretty sure was frogeye spot/black rot. It had a good crop of apples that matured in September that year. The leaves looked bad from mid-summer on. By September they were quite "purple". The tree held it's leaves all winter and the next spring it was dead.
That was before I started spraying multiple times each year. I don't know if I could have saved that tree with fungicide(s) or not. The apples were tasty when the tree was healthy.

Year old Red Baron was heavily damaged by sunscauld before I knew much about it. I have lost 1/2 of the tree, but so far it has hung on and produced fruit. One of these years it will be done.
