I just started planting apple trees last year with a variety of bare root trees on standard root stock from Wallace and Midwest deer trees. The red Baron from Wallace that got put in my yard was loaded up with fruit already in year 2 before I snipped them off tonight. That said, it’s really not putting on much wood compared to the chestnut crab next to it that only had 4 blooms this spring. Two good choices for apples by your home. Those two have shown few problems for me.

Those two have shown few problems for me. Makes sense that you say that since most of my tree orders the last couple years were made with your "apple trees for deer" thread on H-T as a basis.
