^^^white pines grew like weeds at my folks' old place. They certainly do not grow like that here. . I still can’t quite figure out why there are pockets of native white pine as you drive south from Motley and not further nw towards Ottertail County. I see the same thing north of Stu. When I look at Fishing pictures on the internet, the presence of native pines on the shoreline or lack of them is an indication of location..

I don't understand white pine presence or lack thereof around here. I can drive just a couple miles north and start seeing some really old white pines with re-gen popping up. The soil there is the same as the soil here.

The soil there is the same as the soil here. I see white pine growing in a couple of swamps and not growing in 98% of swamps. I often wonder why.

The improved white pine(2-3') I got from the dnr grew like weeds on my property in Bertha. The plugs and smaller ones, not so much. They become nice trees once they take off.

White Pine in a cage will do well up by you Wink...as will any pine really. If it is caged. You should see the difference between caged pine and not caged @ my Parkers farm. It is comical really.

I swore I was done planting pines a couple years ago, then I go and order some this year. I do believe that from here on out, the only evergreens I'll be planting will be white and/or Black Hills spruce. Those two are the least browsed evergreens here, besides blue spruce. Blues grow so slowly I'm not going to waste my time with them though.

At some point in the relative near future I'm going to have some re-mesh cages to sell. I'd think they would go fast on FB marketplace I just moved cages off of some older trees and out of my main orchard. I need some of them for new trees, but I think I've got about 8-10 that aren't going to be used for fruit trees. I may move them to some wild trees, or to some evergreens. Not sure I want to clutter up the woods with re-mesh cages though.

I was thinking spruce was safe until this past winter and spring. Lost some good ones unfortunately and I don’t have many to spare
