Good find BV. Hard to believe they are selling that cheap. Rootstock would cost them $2-$2.50 unless they are propagating their own. Then growing the whips a year and over wintering them. $7 seems low but, maybe they love what they are doing and price isn't an issue.

I kept looking for the "catch" but don't see any. For that price, grafting isn't even worth it.

The thing that jumped off the page to me is Tennessee. Their shipping season ends mid march.

My question is how hardy are "standard rootstocks" from TN? Couldn't the term "standard rootstocks" mean just about anything? In addition to the question of how cold tolerant they are, how disease resistant would they be? AGAIN, I am not an apple tree guy at all, but I like it when I hear terms like Antonovka, Baccata, Ranetka, or one of the "improved numbered" rootstocks(B118), because it gives my dumb ass something to compare it to, that I can look up and get real data and recommendations for my area. Maybe I'm just dumb and putting to much thinking into this?

My guess is their standard rootstock is either antonovka or common domestic apple, probably CDA. Antonovka would have known qualities, CDA would vary from tree to tree.

Would Arkansas Black survive in MN?

Would Arkansas Black survive in MN? That would depend on the rootstock and the variety itself. I don't see Arkansas Black listed at Fedco from Maine so maybe not. You'd want Antonovka , B118 , or one of the crabs like ranteka or Siberian for rootstock. Black Oxford is a Maine zone 4 for sure tree that's similar to Ark Black.
