Did you read the directions? There is a bit of a learning curve to get a good edge. You have to build up a "burr" on the edge before moving on to the next stage. Yes I think I did (it was years ago). I do remember my reaction to using it though. Brad, I knew you were challenged, but this is ridiculous. :-)

If you are not confined by solar energy or lack of power.....and prefer to not own manual sharpeners......then that Chef's Choice is a pretty sweet sharpener for all your cuttlerly from hunting knives to kitchen gear. Yeah....it may cost your 2 carbon credits and .04 cents / year.....but who gives two chits? I also have a couple of those cheap carbide sharpeners.....and they suffice for day-pack carry in a pinch.

And you sharpened them how? The havalons I don't sharpen because they are replaceable blades. The Buck knife I use a pull through thingie. I want something better. www.havalon.com/

Brad, I suck at sharpening too. You're not alone. Just admitting your problem is the first step. Congratulations. I get mine sharpened once a year at a knife shop in MPLS. I use a spyderco sharpening thing to try and keep them that way. But, I'm not good at it.

That's a sharp knife. I'm not familiar with that kind of sharpener. How does it work? It's a leather strop. What the old time barbers used to keep an edge on a straight razor. Not used so much for putting an edge on a blade but more to fine tune/hone an edge. I sharpen with a stone and hone with the strop.
