Looks like it works well but I don't like being anywhere close to the tree when it falls, let alone under it looking down at a lever I'm pulling on. Seen to many dead or broken limbs fall out of a tree when it shifts a little. Know a guy who died when that happened and the limb hit him in the head.

You definitely need to check out trees thoroughly prior to doing any cutting and respect your limitations. I had 3 large birch taken down by a logger earlier this year because I thought they were way to much and dangerous for me to attempt.
I've had several 6-8" leaning trees that I couldn't fit a wedge in that I think this tool might help. The hunting guys would be looking at live trees to cut so I thought this might work but. Is there a danger of the hinge popping this tool back at the you when it pops open?

I don't have so many that it's a big deal anyway. There are some doozies on the federal land though. Those limbs seems to fall before they even look dead and rotted.
