Thats a crazy drop. I looked at the years the DNR referenced as 'similar drops' because of the late early opener affect and it was not near the same.

The buck kill was down 33% for the county where my land is located. My dad and I saw exactly 0 bucks during gun season, so that seems pretty accurate. I think in my county at least most people were busy shooting bull elk so they didn't need to resort to killing lowly whitetail bucks.

This was the lowest buck harvest for 9 day gun season since 1980.

This was the lowest buck harvest for 9 day gun season since 1980. Was it the lack of bucks, or were bucks just not moving?

This was the lowest buck harvest for 9 day gun season since 1980. Was it the lack of bucks, or were bucks just not moving? I saw 2 bucks during 9 day gun season, a 3 point and a spike buck. Early October trailcam pics showed I had quite a few bucks. Where they went I do not know. Northern 1/2 of Wisconsin had 8 inches snowstorm Wednesday followed by another snowstorm of 8 to 22 inches of snow on Friday, Saturday into Sunday. Southern Wisconsin had heavy rains on those same days which had to contribute to low kill.

I was expecting a bigger decrease, this is pretty much the same as the opening weekend decrease.

I looked up the other years where the season went from earliest to latest start. 2007 to 2008 season the buck kill was down 22 percent. 2012 to 2013 the buck kill was down 14.4 percent.

Buck kill down 30% in Sauk where new place is located. I saw 6 deer all season, 3 were bucks. Saw zip after opening weekend.

I am no expert, but I believe that I read your gun season was later than normal? If so, it might prove a couple things. Later gun seasons protect deer. The earlier cold weather had the deer moving/rutting and maybe it was a big pause after the rut was over?
We hunt in Iowa this weekend--Dec 7 start. I expect to see plenty of deer, but the number of bucks seen in December compared to November is a major difference. That is why states that delay the gun season have superior hunting. That is why you see Outdoor Channel guys living in Iowa and Kansas to take advantage of the older bucks that survive due to the late gun seasons.
On a positive note, Wisconsin should have very good buck age structure next year, making me think I should buy a bow tag over there!!

During the bow season I recorded 14 different one and two year old bucks. Also one mature buck while bow hunting, had several mature bucks on trail cam. Only heard 1 set of rifle shots close to my land while I was hunting so if the bucks survive muzzy, late bow and don't die over winter there should be a boatload of bucks running around next year.

I know Missouri gun season was a week late and numbers were down. Bucks were in lock down after the first couple days. My thinking is there should be some real fucking giants running around next year because of the week late seasons for all of us!

How does Wisconsin handle the registration situation? Has that changed recently?

How does Wisconsin handle the registration situation? Has that changed recently? Registration hasn't changed the last few years, so that shouldn't have impacted the 2018 to 2019 difference.
