Been looking at storm doors online. They all look the same to me, yet they range from $100 - $300+. What is the difference between a cheap POS and a quality door? I really don't want to do any of these jobs twice.

Depends on what you are trying to get out of it. If your sole purpose is to get better ventilation, all you need is a screen door. If it is to save on a heat bill or to enhance the outside look get a good quality door. Some doors have a wood core clad in aluminum or vinyl and will give you a better insulating value and in most cases will be more durable. If you have animals you probably don't want a full view door for obvious reasons.

I've had insects eat the screen before. Might want to look for something that has aluminum screens.

I should take pics. One day there were clusters of bugs on the windows and doors. I didn't think much of it as they were outside. A couple of days later there were bugs in the house. What the hell! They had eaten holes in the screens and came in. They really wanted in! sd - Like terrifictom said, I like the top portion of my door to be screen and the bottom solid. Maybe it's cause I have kids but the bottoms seems to get torn up a lot.

This project is a go for this weekend. Because of the inventory pandemic, I want to order my doors for in-store pickup while they still have them. They have 2 of the storm doors, and 3 of the screen door. I'm looking for advice one more time. Is this the door I should be getting? It's the right size and design for my needs. I think the screen is up above like Cat mentioned. I think it's the proper quality as well. Didn't want to do the vinyl/particle board core. I'm ok with paying an extra $100 for a good door. www.homedepot.com/p/EMCO-36-in-x-80-in-400-Series-White-Universal-Self-Storing-Aluminum-Storm-Door-with-Nickel-Hardware-E4SN36WH/203207924I'm gonna roll the dice and wait on the other interior screen door that goes from the cabin to the garage. The reviews on the interior ones are awful, and they're more expensive than a storm door. I might just say piss on it and put another storm door on the inside.

Ok, no going back now. Both doors are ordered. Everyone who didn't respond is on the hook for this if it goes south.

I think you’ll be fine. Looks heavy duty enough.

I think you’ll be fine. Looks heavy duty enough. I ordered this one from Menards. The maintenance guy at my building also builds decks and additions and he's used this one a number of times and said it's a good door. This one will go from the cabin into the garage. I'm going to have to beef up the cat zone though.

Yet they will serve the purpose if you just need some ventilation. As was said earlier....bugs will eat nylon screens.....seen grasshoppers do this. I'd bet that door does not even include hinges, a door check chain, springs, or a door handle. You will likely need a stiffener rod for that door so it does not sag. Only a few bucks. The aluminum clad storm doors are pretty durable and usually fully framed with all the hardware and a closure. Likely the "gold standard" in "storm doors" is Larson Manufacturing. I used to sell most of those door companies when I worked in the Aluminum industry. Larson had 7 lbs of extrusions in each door....plus the sheet aluminum skin. Today they buy over 50 million lbs of aluminum. Lots of doors. Great company.
