This came out of my neighbors flower bed when she was weeding last fall. I've never seen anything like it before. I cut it open to see the inside but I have no clue what it is.

For size comparison , it's is laying on the back of a shovel.
My first thought was a feminine product. But then I dared to touch it. I think it was alive at one point. Some sort of plant or fungus.

Neighbor asked me since I'm the "outdoors guy". She had no idea either.
I took the pic last fall to post it to Jim's forum and couldn't get it to load. I just found it again and tapatalk made the posting easy.

I have seen those before growing in mulch. My neighbor usually has them every year in her mulch. Some kind of fungus.
